Our cars are rare, so you are not going to find spares at a local motor factors and usually not at an autojumble, however, they are more readily available than you might initially imagine.
We have collected links and sources to spares which we hope members will find useful.

  • Please note any agreement to purchase is between you and the organisations concerned. Just because an item is listed does not mean the Club endorses the quality of the item, nor the seller. Your usual level of care and due diligence must be exercised in dealing with the various organisations.
  • NB: In relation to substitute parts – these are items advised by other members but not checked! You MUST satisfy yourself that replacement parts are satisfactory for their intended purpose by further investigation or testing as required.
  • IMPORTANT UPDATE TO SPARES PURCHASE IN THE POST BREXIT WORLD. Please click here to download some guidance on this matter.

Further sources and details are added as known – please also let us know of any spares or services of interest to Club members...

Bearings
Simply Bearings (UK) – Within their website you can insert the size of the bearing you need (by I.D. and O.D.) or using the code as shown in the Parts Book (eg 6201) to find an exact match for the original item. You can also search for oil seals by inserting the sizes in the search facility. To access the Simply Bearings website click here .

Brakes:

  • Pads and Seals:

In all cases check the new pads against the shape and size of the old.
Did you know that early Civic rear cylinder seals may also fit the S800.
Skoda Estelle front brake pads fit the Mk 1 S800. Suggested ref no. Gandy Pads DP84
For Mk 2 pads look for Supra MTT82 or search out 1200cc early Honda Civic front pads.
Ref no. Balco Met 90 (BP1011) again these are front pads for early 1200cc Honda Civic and should fit the Mk 2 S800.

  • Master cylinder seals:

Humber Sceptre and Hillman Minx (1964) master cylinder seals fit the Mk 1 master cylinders and the Mk 1 and Mk 2 clutch master cylinder. Look for a re-con kit of rubbers not the whole cylinder as you are only after the seals.

  • Replacement calipers:

Vauxhall Viva HB or MG Midget and Sprite may fit the Mk 1 S800.
Wilwood make a caliper that can be bolted on via an adapter.

Brake Refurbishment:
In the UK a large number of members (including Peter Rose late of Sherwood Garage) have used Contract Auto Engineering to get existing brake components repaired by resleeving the cylinder bores. Contract Auto Engineering

Bumpers and Grills:
We have been contacted by a firm making replica front and rear bumpers in stainless steel and front grills. I know they are not the same as the original in terms of the material – but front bumpers and grills are especially hard to find and chrome plating prices head ever skywards. For more details and prices click on the link. Members of the Club can get a further 5% discount on the prices shown. The Harrington Group

Carburettor:
Needle Valve Seat Washers: Club members Tony Lowe and Peter Watkins use Nylon 66 washers under the float seats to help prevent petrol percolating down the threads of the seat. These work in a similar way to the original washer with combined filter that used to be located here. If your carbs flood then probably worth a go. Click here for a link to a firm that supplies all sizes of nylon washers.

Chrome Plating/Metal Finishing:
Various finishes are used within the cars including chrome and nickel plating as well as zinc passivate in silver or gold. Bead and vapour blasting provides an excellent way to restore alloy castings.
Niphos are a company who provide all of the above. They are located in Cheshire, UK and can prvide a postal service as well. Niphos Metal Finishing
SSS Restorers contacted us via Facebook. They restore chrome as well as period castings and light fittings including lenses! Again a postal service is available https://www.facebook.com/SSSRestorers/ Scroll down for pictures of S800 and S600 items.

Electronic Ignition:
This French company is offering a complete replacement for your distributor using modern electronic ignition. Crucially it comes with a distributor cap which are now hard to source for the standard distributor. Click here to visit the website

Engine Bay Stickers:
Our cars have a number of stickers in various areas which were applied in the factory. To make your renovation complete click here to see the range of reproduction stickers now available.

Engine parts:

  • Crankshafts:

Based in Japan this company can rebuild crankshafts and provide spares for damaged cranks. http://www.enginesshop.com/index.html

  • Shims:

A Club member has spotted shims on Ebaythat usefully they have their size on each surface. The standard Honda shims are 10.5 mm across whereas most on Ebay are 9.5mm to 10mm. Despite being slightly undersize they MAY be a suitable swap. Please speak to other users before trying.

  • Oil Pump Gauze:

Early Honda Civic oil pump gauze will fit but is a coarser mesh and affords less protection to the pump. On the other hand the fine gauze has been known to break up and get sucked into the pump with undesirable consequences!

Fuel Pipe:
Club member Alan Stanyon has found an excellent fuel pipe supplier whose products are E10 friendly. The pipe is made of Nitrile. The version he uses is black on the outside so looks OEM. https://www.ariete.com/product/ariete-fuel-pipes/ .

Fuel Pump:
Our friends in the Dutch Club say this fuel pump works perfectly. It apparently is intended for an Alfa Romeo. The pressure seems a little higher than what Honda specified but our Dutch friends say it works very well. https://shop.alfamotive.nl/en/benzinpumpe-elektrisch-mitsuba-0-3-bar-90-l-h.html?___from_store=en&fbclid=IwAR2e6YHLyCs6kk42PEwzPUtWHvzddOh_O85_9l2h6LDCSTF8WnR36ESy3o8

Hoods/Soft Tops for Convertible S type cars:
Robbins Hoods – Club members have bought and fitted these hoods recently. The fit is great and the material and design is a very close match to the original – thanks to one US based member who took his N.O.S. hood in as a pattern for Robbins to copy. If buying from overseas remember there may be import duty to pay. To go straight to the Honda part of their website – click here .

Hoses:
Classic Silicone Hoses have our radiator hoses in stock – and they even have the period correct tape effect to their surface! The remainder are straight lengths of heater hose and bypass hosing which is available in matching black silicone. To view the item follow this link – https://classicsiliconehoses.uk/our-products/

  • Top radiator hose:

Vauxhall Chevette fits but may need shortening. Hacksaws seem the easiest for this job but remove any debris.

  • Heater hose bulkhead grommets:

Members have used grommets from the 'classic' Mini via Ebay and autojumbles.

Insurance:
Classic Cars insurance for older vehicles including Honda S800, N600, Z600 and N360. Whoever you choose – look for features that include agreed value and low excess amounts in the policy terms and if you choose a limited mileage policy consider how many miles you will actually do. Consider whether Breakdown cover is included or needs to be arranged separately. Be aware that some breakdown services have an age cut off for cars – so our old classics MAY not be covered.

Interior trim:
Based in Portugal Alfredo Rodrigues is producing all sorts of replica trim as well as petrol tanks and wind deflectors. Google Link

Miscellaneous Trim:
Woolies can supply all manner of items such as rubber trims and seals, switches, window channel, wiper blades, lights etc etc. Better still you can pick up the items at a classic car show near you from their stand. More details via their website. More details are at https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/

Oil – CLUB OFFER:
Further advice has been sought in the light of changes to oil specifications in recent years. Lawton Chen has written an informative article with links to well known suppliers. One such company is Opie Oils based in the UK. They not only supply all kinds of oils and transmission fluid, but they also advise on what is the right oil for a particular vehicle.

Our Club Secretary Lawton Chen has gone and negotiated another great deal for Club Members! We now have a 10% Club Member discount on their range of stock items which include all manner of oils but also magnetic sump plugs! Please note that the search facility WILL recognise your UK registered cars but wont give any options for oil etc. The guys at Opie are happy to advise on what oils to use though. To visit the front page of their website click here and at the checkout stage use our unique discount code of HONDAS800.

The magnetic sump plug to choose is AP02.

Oil Seals:
Simply Bearings (UK) – Within this website you can insert the size of the oil seal you need (I.D., O.D. and depth) to find an exact match for the Honda seal. You can also search for ball bearings as used within the gearbox by searching for the bearing number as listed in the Parts Book. NB – the front gearbox oil seal size in the Honda S800 Parts Book is WRONG! It should be 40 x 25 x 7 and not 40 x 30 x 7. Don't ask me how I know...! For the Simply Bearings website click here

Paint:
If you are intending on painting your car the original colour please be aware that paint fades over time so any external paint you see today is unlikely to be what the car looked like when new. It's best to find a patch of original paint inside the car around the under dash area or under boot carpets for the best match. You can get a swatch made up to compare but be aware you might need to buy a litre of paint! Autopaints of Brighton reckon they can mix most S600 and S800 paints to order. https://shop.autopaintsbrighton.co.uk/index.asp

  • Radford Panels

Alternatively you can paint them to match your car. Contact Darby by clicking on the 'Contact' link at the foot of the website.

  • Glass Fibre Panels

Alan (Slim) Faggetter owns a set of good quality moulds for S800 panels. He can be contacted by searching for glass fibre panels within the old Forum.

  • Belgium Panels

Arthur Lenoir is a panel producer based in Belgium with experience of making panels for the S800. His website is here – https://arthurclassics.be/ To visit their Facebook page click here .

Petrol:
Your S800 will happily run on unleaded fuel as the valve seats are hardened inserts. Cylinder heads have been closely examined after using unleaded petrol and no discernable wear was evident to the valve seats. Nevertheless, whilst clearly not essential to the motor, it is probably a good idea to put some leaded petrol in, as and when this is available. We are unable to comment upon the usefulness of lead substitute additives.
Which grade should I use? There has been a lot of debate around this subject but the current thinking seems to be to use the E5 petrol where only up to 5% ethanol has been added rather than the E10 grade. In the UK this means searching out the higher priced performance brands with octane ratings of typically 97 to 99 RON.

Powder Coating:
Cyclone Powder Coating – This company is based in the North West of the UK and can powder coat all sorts of parts on the S800, N600 and Z600. Their speciality is wheels which can be revamped very competitively if you drop them off. More details are at https://cyclonepowdercoating.co.uk/

Shock Absorbers/Dampers – CLUB OFFER:
Based in the UK, GAZ Shocks have units for the S800. If you mention your Club – i.e. HS800SCC they will give you a 15% discount! Contact them by emailing at enquiries@gazshocks.com or visit their website at https://www.gazshocks.com/

Spark Plugs:
NGK Spark Plugs – Standard fit is D8EA but for competition use or fast road or track use try D9EA or even D10EA in highly tuned applications. Alternatively DR8E1X is the platinum tipped modern resistor equivalent, but don't use the resistor type plugs if you are using the original plug caps (as these are fitted with resistors) or modern resistor fitted equivalent caps. The resistor spark plugs are easily identified by the 'R' in the nomenclature – eg DR8EA.

Stop Light Switch:
For the brake line pressure switch Nissan part number 25320-89901 is an exact duplicate with the correct pipe thread and electrical terminals. It is single pole as per S600 and Mk 1 S800 and not an exact replica for the 3 terminal Mk 2. Thus it will operate the brake lights but not the brake system malfunction warning.

Transmission:
This term relates to the clutch, gearbox, propshaft and rear axle/differential. Did you know there are fine spline and coarse spline elements to the gearbox input (and consequently the clutch) plus the gearbox output/propshaft and rear axle half shafts/diff. Generally the later cars have fine splines and earlier cars have coarse splines. Before ordering spares (or buying secondhand stuff) you need to know what you have got on your car. Be aware that parts get swapped around and S800s are about heading to 60 years old, meaning plenty of time for earlier swapping to have taken place. To start you off the input shaft on an early coarse spline gearbox has 11 splines.

Tyres:
Your tyre size will depend upon the size and type of wheels fitted. Original size steel wheels are 4.5 inch wide using a 145x13 tyre to a standard (nominal 80%) profile.| The general rule is as you go up in width then the profile has to reduce. You can therefore fit 165/70 x 13 and 185/60 x 13 to keep a similar rolling radius to the original (although you will need correspondingly wider wheels). For road use 165/70 or 175/65 (or 175/60 is a close approximate to the original rolling circumference (depending on availability) and seems to be the optimum. Please note for classic rallying many championships specify that a tyre profile no lower than 70% can be used.
For more information click here .

Water Pump:
Peter Rose, late of Sherwood Garage rebuilt a batch of water pumps using a non standard seal. If yours fails you will need to know what he used! – We have the answer. It is a 10X32X12TC4 from Budget Bearings. They are at https://budgetbearings.co.uk/shop/

Wheels:
Minilite replica wheels are available in 5 inch and 5.5 inch widths with a diameter of 13 inches. Check which tyres you intend to use. https://www.minilite.uk/

Windscreens:
Ortmanns in Germany have screens available but we also understand Pilkingtons in the UK can supply a screen for both the coupe and the convertible. ( Click here )

The coupe windscreen seal can be replaced by a standard section of rubber seal. Go to the Woolies website (or stall at your local Autojumble) and ask for seal ref 1181.

Wiring Loom:
Autosparks is a supplier in the UK who is making new pattern wiring looms for the S800. Click here to visit their page.
